Band Director Jose' Sanchez
Biography:
Mr. Jose Sanchez is a 2009 graduate of Baylor University with a degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Tuba. He participated in the Baylor University Golden Wave Band 5 years as well as being a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity. Mr. Sanchez is still very active in the Baylor community, working weekends at the McLane Student Life on Baylor’s Campus. Prior to being the Director of Bands to Wortham ISD he was the Assistant Director of Bands at Rosebud-Lott ISD. He is the proud owner of two Olde English Bulldogs named Orpheus and Eurydice.
The Wortham High School Band along with Wortham ISD would like to recognize the following students for their participation and accomplishments in the Riesel Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Riesel ISD on May 3rd 2013. The following student prepared a selection to perform in front of a judge in which they would be rated. The following students received a rating of superior: Reagan Jones, Reilly Jones; Clarinet: Ta Ta Felder, Ashley Mao, Maura Batts, Jessica Buchanan; Saxophone: Evan Ray, Jovan Carranza; Trumpet: David Cortez, Chandler Eubank, Blake Looney, Brent Martinez, Boone Crider; Trombone: Abby Jenkins; Bassoon: Garrett Covey Tuba: Taylor Strother, Johan Carranza, Logan Capers; Percussion: Michael Johnson, Kennedy Watson, Devon Colquette, Anthony Perez, and Isabel Pena.
The following students earned an Excellent Rating: Flute: Katie Barker, Alex Munster; French Horn: Hallie Fautt
Growling Bulldog band has been awarded the superior rating in Marching Band Competition and in Concert and Sight-Reading competition, which mark the band's first Sweepstakes award in over a decade.
The Growling Bulldog Band and Wortham ISD are proud to announce the accomplishments of the Wortham High School Concert Band. On March 6th 2013, the Growling Band travelled to Groesbeck Texas to compete in the annual UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest held at Groesbeck High School. The Growling Band was awarded 1s (Superior) from six state recognized judges. Bands are graded on a scale of five. 1 (Superior) 2(Excellent) 3(Average) 4(Below Average) 5(Poor). This marks the first time since 1996 that the Growling Bulldog band has been awarded the superior rating in Marching Band Competition and in Concert and Sight-Reading competition which marks the band first Sweepstakes award in over a decade. Thanks to all the students that have put many hours in preparation for this event and thank you to the parents that help support their children’s musical growth. GO BULLDOGS!!!!
The Wortham High School Band along with Wortham ISD would like to recognize the following students for their participation and accomplishments in the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Temple College in Temple Texas on February 23rd 2013. The following students prepared a selection from the UIL Prescribed Music List to perform in front of a judge, in which they would be rated. Each Solo or Ensemble is given a ranking, and pending on the grade level of the selection, is eligible to advance to state level hearings held in Austin Texas at the beginning of June. The following students received a rating of superior: Flute: Brook White(Solo), Scarlett Miller(Solo); Clarinet: Randle Chambers(Solo), Rowan Miller(Solo); Saxophone: Michael Anderson(Solo), Tyler Baird(Solo); Trumpet: Cooper Thompson(Solo and Ensemble), Haven Proulx(Ensemble), Sean Ridge(Solo and Ensemble); Trombone: Drew Jenkins(Solo and Ensemble), Cody Beck(Solo and Ensemble); Tuba: Bryce Buchmeyer(Solo and Ensemble), Caleb Lewis(Solo); Percussion: Madison Van Der Kroon(Solo).
The following students will advance to state competition: Randle Chambers (Solo), Rowan Miller (Solo), Cooper Thompson (Solo and Ensemble), Haven Proulx (Ensemble), Sean Ridge (Solo and Ensemble), Michael Anderson (Solo), Drew Jenkins (Ensemble), Cody Beck (Ensemble) Bryce Buchmeyer (Solo and Ensemble).

Congratulations to Bryce Buchmeyer, member of Wortham High School Band, for all-state honors and his selection to perform in the All-State Concert. "The Association of Texas Small School Bands is pleased to announce the selection of the ATSSB All-State Band. More than 9000 high school band students from across Texas auditioned in twenty different regions for a place in their respective all-region bands. The top chairs in each region advanced to one of five area auditions held this past weekend across the state and only 240 of these 1360 students were selected for all-state honors." more...

On January 12 three students competed in the ATSSB Area Band Competition which determines if a student advances to state. Cooper Thompson earned 14th chair, Michael Anderson earned 14th chair and Bryce Buchmeyer earned 3rd chair resulting in him advancing to the ATSSB All-State Band. Bryce will be going to San Antonio on February 14-16. He will audition for a spot in one of 2 bands in which he will then rehearse for 3 days and present a concert on Saturday in the Lila Cockrell Theater.

On Saturday January 19th Bryce Buchmeyer, Cooper Thompson, and Michael Anderson will be participating in the ATSSB clinic and concert in Groesbeck Texas.

Michael Anderson received a full tuition music scholarship to McLennan Community College.

Bryce Buchmeyer had been offered a music scholarship to Northwestern State University.
