Blake Hutson, BBQ Cookoff Champ: Blake Hutson represented Wortham FFA and the culinary arts program April 20 in the 6th annual Cypress Ridge BBO Cookoff. Blake won the chicken division, was 2nd in the brisket competition and 3rd in the ribs. He was named the Master Chef of the competition. For his efforts, Blake was presented with a $1000 scholarship and won an addition $225 for his placings in each event.

Wortham Middle School students attended the Regional Central Texas Science and Engineering Fair on February 26-27, 2013. The fair was held at the TSTC campus in Waco. Eight of the ten students received awards during the award ceremony on February 27. more

DAR Contest Winner

Courtney won the Jonathon Hardin Chapter of the DAR’s (Daughters of the American Revolution) Chris Topher Columbus essay contest. She was honored at their February 13th meeting and received an award and check in the amount of $50. Her essay has now been sent to the state level to be judged. If she places at the state level, it will then be sent to the national level. Their guest speaker that day was Dr. Shirley Richardson, the only woman who ever served as the Texas Commissioner of Education. She is the woman in the middle and the woman in pink is Aleece McBay.
