Linda Ferris, Director of Choirs at Wortham ISD receives the prestigious John and Michele Wetteland Teacher-Leader Award for 2016 at the Meyerson Center on Saturday at the 20th Annual NTMCC Event.  

Wortham has 12-15 elementary choir students audition to be included in the 200 member children’s choir in North Dallas to perform high level choral selections under the direction of selected choral directors across the nation.  Mrs. Ferris also received the coveted “Teacher of the Year” in 2014 for her work in the program.  Wortham has participated in this enriching project annually since 2007.  Photos and Information can be seen at  www.ntchoirs.com

An illustrated children's book for Christmas. Michele Wetteland, a local author and speaker, wrote Katie and Addie Love Christmas. The book is a first in a series about her twin daughters. The book is based on the real-life twins' antics.

The author is married to John Wetteland, the 1996 World Series Most Valuable Player for the New York Yankees and the 2005 Texas Rangers Hall of Fame Inductee.

Wetteland speaks all over the country about her life as the partner of a famous athlete, as well as speaking about her Christian values.

This is the 3^rd year for the Wetteland Teacher-Leader Awards to be honored at the NTCC Concerts in February.  The award helps to place the music teacher(s) in an educative environment for further study in their field.

Mrs. Ferris will use the award to enroll in Kodaly theory training program and TMEA training expenses.

We are involved in events:  UIL Choir and Sightreading, UIL Solo & Ensemble, Texas Music Educators Assn. Region, Area and All-State Programs (both MS and HS), TCDA (Texas Choral Directors State Honor Choir), North Texas Children's Choir Elementary Honor Choir.

We perform in statewide choral and instrumental functions to assist the education of all individuals within the groups with goals of scholarship beyond high school through these experiences.
