Dear Bulldog families,
As communicated last week, Wortham ISD was on lockdown for a reported threat against our schools. After an investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies, it was determined that there was no active threat against our schools. Since that time, we have had multiple confirmed reports of students making light of school threats and not taking threats seriously, even joking about a potential school threat situation. While we have addressed those students involved in these acts, we are asking for your help to prevent any further problems or threats. Please know that anytime a student makes a threat against a student, teacher, classroom, or toward a campus or our district, we will take that threat seriously and involve law enforcement to fully investigate and assess the situation. We will not tolerate threats of any kind. We ask you to talk to your students about the seriousness of threats made toward others and the potential seriousness of consequences associated with such threats, which include suspension, placement in an alternative school, expulsion, and criminal charges, and we will continue to do the same. Thank you for working with us to make Wortham ISD safe for everyone. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Melissa Bosley
Superintendent, Wortham ISD

Dear Bulldog families,
This morning, Wortham ISD received a call from Wortham PD regarding a threat directed toward our schools. We immediately put all campuses on lockdown and worked with Wortham Police, Limestone County, Freestone County, and DPS to assess the source and credibility of the threat that was reported. The investigation revealed that a source outside the district contacted DPS with information related to a disciplinary situation that involved police earlier this week, and there was no actual threat made toward our schools today. At no time were any students or staff in danger, but every precaution was taken to ensure their safety.
Wortham ISD would like to thank the Wortham Police Department, Freestone County, Limestone County, and the Department of Public Safety for their communication and swift response. We all take the safety of our district and community seriously, and we are grateful for the efforts of law enforcement to work quickly and efficiently to ensure that there was no credible threat to our district today. Additionally, we depend on our public to provide us with relevant information regarding potential threats. If you see or hear something that seems out of the norm or could possibly create a dangerous situation, please contact us or law enforcement with the information so that we can further investigate and make informed decisions regarding the safety of our district. There is nothing more important.
With a grateful heart,
Melissa Bosley
Wortham ISD Superintendent
